Preface

VMware virtual machine cannot start due to abnormal shutdown

Reason

  • The reason for my situation is that the external hard drive was accidentally interrupted

  • Any other abnormal forced shutdown of VMware may also lead to this situation

  • After this situation occurs, it is because the hard disk lock is locked

Problem solving

  • Force unlock the hard disk

  • First, delete all .lck directories and files under the virtual machine directory

  • Then right-click and edit the .vmx virtual machine configuration file, and append the configuration to unlock the hard disk at the end of the file
