Preface

Forced restart of Finder in MacOS.

Using Terminal

  • After forcibly restarting Finder through Terminal, Finder windows will reopen after being closed.

Using Keyboard Shortcuts

  • With Finder selected, use the keyboard shortcut command+option+shift+esc to force quit the Finder process.
  • After restarting Finder using the keyboard shortcut, Finder windows will not reopen after being closed.
